Clean your EGR ports.

It might sound strange, but this same thing was happening to my 97 before
it was destroyed in a freeway accident. I had gone about 600 miles farther
than you and still had no ready light on O2, cat, or EGR. Nothing helped. I
swapped both O2 sensors, a fuel pump, plugs, reseated the injectors,
prayed, did some craziness to pressurize the IM slightly to check for
leaks, and nothing helped.

I ran across a post on miata.net a few years ago with a guy describing the
same problem. He cleaned his EGR sensor and all ports and the ECU was happy
and finally gave the ready code. That was one thing I didn't try.

That 96-97 ECU is a bear. Good luck!
