As with engines, diff clearances are controlled by the person that does the assembly.

I had a rebuilt 7.5" diff in my previous V8 Monster and it seemed to have some backlash or play and I am eventually planning to go forward with another V8 Project with a more suitable and efficient power plant than the 5.0 Ford which was hard to tune, hard to cool, and gave awful MPG.
