Hey I'm over in New York for a conference this week and had my first authentic dead experience last night at the Bob weir and ratdog show. The President also attended! As I understand it he was there to say thanks to Bob for all his support in getting traditional non voters to register during the election. There was of course no sight of him and he left before the end of the first set. I've never experieinced so much security at a concert before...scanners, everyone searched, NYPD warning the deadheads to get rid of their "contraband" (somehow some still amnaged to get some in) and the place crawling with secret service.
The show was fantastic and Bob along with Mark Karman (I think it was him) playing really hot guitar. I'm not over familiar with Ratdog/dead songs but their was a great mix of both...excellent! I've also found out that Obama's Education Secrtary (?) is presenting a key note speaach at the conference just before I do my presentation...talk about pressure (I'm nearly sick with nerves). Ther will be 180 delegates at the conference with an additional 500 there for the secretary's (Arnie Duncan) speech. I will have the additional pressure of watching 500 people leaving the hall as I begin to talk...I'll probably empty the place in five minutes!! So any if any of you guys know anything about Arnie (I justy know he's from Chicago and was a NBA pro at one time) I'd appreciate the headz up.
