ROCK MUSIC IN DIRE STRAITS: CRITIC

*Rock Music Has Worst Year Ever:*

How dire is the state of mainstream rock? So dire that "Sublime With Rome,"
a band with no higher ambition than mimicking Sublime, has had a song on
the Billboard charts every week since May. "2011 may well be remembered as
the most numbing year for mainstream rock in music history," declares New
York Times critic Jon Caramanica.

And this passes for journalism? That's the entire article above. What's he
really expecting for a music form that's WAY older than most of the fans of
anything new in the genre, anyway? I haven't really heard anything new and
challenging in rock music since the 1990's, anyway. Rock music is way past
it's "Sell By" date anyway, isn't it? Is there a good, commercial band out
there that doesn't sound like every other band? I freely admit that I don't
look for anything new, anymore. I've been pretty disappointed checking out
newer, popular bands (like the White Stripes, for instance). There are way
too many bands that want to sound like (fill in the blank), and way too few
with anything original sounding. And the suits that sign bands to their
labels either don't know or can't tell the difference!
