I'm with you there, t. I have never owned a gun (and don't believe I ever will) and have never hunted (because I never wanted to), yet I, too, have no problem with guns for protection or sport. To each his own. And you are right; automatic machine guns are made for warfare only and nothing else.
Kids nowadays are so desensitized to violence, it's really scary. They've grown up in the new digital age where games don't have anything to do with the outdoors, but sitting for hours in front of a television set or computer monitor killing zombies or other "humans" via their violent video games. Some of them are extremely violent, and I've never been quite able to figure out what the redeeming quality or "fun level" is with them. Moms and dads get too caught up in their own situations and the VCR, DVD player, XBox, PS3 and computer have become the babysitter and parent for far too many, and those kids who spend all their time in these digital fantasy worlds lose perspective. Then there's the movies with all the new CGI animation that looks so realistic, it further blurs the lines between reality. Being a parent of three, you can't let those lines of what's real and fantasy even remotely get crossed. Kids need to understand the difference. We didn't let our kids play any of those violent video games when they were young, and we still had to let them know that "that's a game, it's not real." Anyway, that's my two cents on the matter. You know, when we were growing up, crazy people killed other people with guns all the time... but they were adults. No kid ever showed up to school to wipe out his classmates and the teachers. That shit didn't happen ever! Now it's gotten to be the "thing to do" when things aren't going quite right. What the fuck is going on?
