1932 – Bing Crosby and The Mills Brothers record “Shine” for the
Brunswick label.
1964 – The first night of a 29 city package tour, featuring The
Searchers, Dusty Springfield and Bobby Vee, begins at the Adelphi
Cinema in Slough, with the artists performing two shows a night.
1964 – The Rolling Stones, The Hollies, Chad and Jeremy, Bobby Vee,
Big Dee Irwin, The Comanches, Alan Freeman and Kathy Kirby all appear
on Thank Your Lucky Stars.
1968 – Former Supreme Florence Ballard marries her first husband,
former Motown chauffeur Thomas Chapman.
1972 – John Lennon's U.S. immigration visa expires.
1977 – Following their concert at the Rainbow Theatre in London,
members of Lynyrd Skynyrd get in a heated argument at the Royal
Lancaster Hotel with members of London's Metropolitan Police, whose
boxing team is staying at the same hotel. A fistfight breaks out, and
two members of the group are knocked unconscious.
1980 – After 21 years, Buddy Holly's glasses, the Big Bopper's watch,
a cigarette lighter and some dice are found in an envelope in a file
cabinet at the police station in Mason City, Iowa. The envelope is
marked "Charles Hardin Holly – rec'd April 7, 1959."
1996 – The Chantels are inducted into the Hall of Fame, and Bo Diddley
is honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the seventh annual
Rhythm & Blues Foundation Awards in New York.
2000 – Eric Clapton is fined and has his driving privileges suspended
for six months for speeding.
2000 – The city of Autlan de Navarro in Mexico announces plans to
erect a statue to hometown boy, guitarist Carlos Santana.
