1939 – The Glenn Miller Orchestra, with Ray Eberle on vocals, records
"Stairway To The Stars" for Bluebird Records.
1958 – Alan Freed quits his job as DJ at WINS in New York when the
station refuses to support him after he is charged with inciting a
riot in Boston. Later in the day, Freed begins his new package tour in
Hershey, Pennsylvania, featuring Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly, Jerry Lee
Lewis, Frankie Lymon and The Teenagers, Danny and The Juniors,
Screamin' Jay Hawkins, Larry Williams, and The Chantels.
1959 – 16-year old Wayne Newton begins a two week engagement at the
Fremont Hotel in Las Vegas, and is so successful that he stays for the
next three years.
1959 – Melody Maker introduces the Juke Box Top 20 chart, compiled
from 200 juke boxes around the UK.
1961 – Ann-Margaret records "I Just Don't Understand" at RCA Studios
in Nashville.
1962 – Taking Sid Coleman's advice, Brian Epstein meets with George
Martin at EMI's Abbey Road Studios, who, after much trepidation (and
learning that losing Epstein's NEMS connections could hurt EMI), signs
The Beatles to a recording contract.
1963 – The Rolling Stones sign a licensing deal with Andrew Loog
Oldham’s Impact management company to have their UK output distributed
by Decca Records.
1964 – Gene Vincent and The Shouts appear at the Rhodes Center in
Bishop's Center, England.
1964 – Chuck Berry makes his UK stage debut at London's Astoria
Theatre, with The Animals, The Nashville Teens and The Swinging Blue
Jeans opening the show.
1965 – Bob Dylan plays the first of two sold-out nights at the Royal
Albert Hall. All four Beatles, as well as members of The Rolling
Stones, Donovan and Marianne Faithfull are all in attendance.
1966 – The Beatles begin recording "For No One" at Abbey Road studios.

nights at the Grande Ballroom in Detroit, Michigan.

1973 – Mick Jagger adds $150,000 of his own money to the $350,000
raised by The Rolling Stones to help the earthquake victims of
Nicaragua.
1974 – Bob Dylan, Pete Seeger, Arlo Guthrie and Phil Ochs perform
"Blowin' In The Wind" together at the Felt Forum for a Friends of
Chile benefit.
1974 – Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band open for Bonnie Raitt
at the Harvard Square Theatre in Cambridge. Rock critic Jon Landau is
in the audience, and writes the famous review, "I saw rock and roll's
future, and its name is Bruce Springsteen..." Landau will become
Springsteen’s manager.
1975 – KISS, The James Gang and Rush all appear at Northern Ohio
University in Ada.
1978 – The Tubes' Fee Waybill falls off the stage at the Hammersmith
Odeon in London, breaking his leg.
1979 – Eric Clapton marries Patti Boyd. Paul McCartney, George
Harrison and Ringo Starr play at the reception.
1992 – Bruce Springsteen finally makes his U.S. television debut,
performing "Lucky Town" on Saturday Night Live.
1998 – Brian Wilson plays his first ever solo concert at the Norris
Theater in St. Charles, Illinois.
1998 – Jimmy Page appears on Saturday Night Live with Sean "Puffy"
Combs to perform his song "Come With Me" from the Godzilla movie,

2005 – Country music artist Kenny Chesney marries actress Renee
Zellweger on the island of St. John in the Caribbean. The marriage

2008 – Rapper Foxy Brown pleads guilty (to avoid jail time) to
menacing and assaulting her neighbor with her cell phone over the
volume of her car radio in July 2007.
2009 – Smokey Robinson and Linda Ronstadt receive honorary degrees
from the Berklee College of Music.
2013 – David Bowie's latest video "The Next Day" is re-instated on
YouTube with an adult content warning after the company admits to
making the “wrong call” by pulling the video.
