York, begins transmission.
1942 – "Cow Cow Boogie" by Freddie Slack and His Orchestra, featuring
17-year old singer Ella Mae Morse, hits #1 on the Hit Parade and becomes
the first hit for fledgling Capitol Records.
1944 – Bing Crosby and The Andrews Sisters record "Don't Fence Me In."
1946 – Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis make their first appearance together as
a musical comedy team at The 500 Club in Atlantic City.
1956 – Ten years to the day after teaming up, the musical comedy act of
Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis splits.
1956 – Returning to New York after a trip to Europe, songwriter *Mike
Stoller almost drowns but *survives the sinking of the luxury liner Andrea

1975 – The musical, *A Chorus Line,* opens on Broadway at the Shubert
Theatre, where it will remain for 6,137 performances.
1975 – David Bowie releases his single, “Fame” b/w “Right.” The single’s
A-side is co-written by John Lennon, who also plays guitar and provides

2001 – The Doors' John Densmore, Bonnie Raitt, and others are arrested in
Itasca, Illinois, for demonstrating against a company which they claim
destroys rainforests.
2002 – Two former members of Destiny's Child, LeToya Luckett and LaTavia
Roberson, settle their lawsuit against the group out of court over lyrics
to the song “Survivor,” which they claim were libelous and broke an
agreement which forbade all parties from making “any public comment of a
disparaging nature concerning one another.” The song’s lyric, “You thought
that I'd be stressed without you, but I'm chillin'. You thought I wouldn't
sell without you, sold nine million,” was the basis of their lawsuit.
2003 – Babyshambles/Libertines singer Pete Doherty is arrested for burglary
after breaking into band mate Carl Barat’s apartment and stealing a guitar,
a laptop computer and other things.
2010 – Louis Prima is posthumously awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of
Fame.
2010 – John *Fogerty* performs his song "Centerfield" at the Clark Sports
Center in Cooperstown during the Baseball Hall of Fame ceremony.
