1956 – Elvis Presley continues recording his second album, recording “When

1957 – The Everly Brothers release their single, “Wake Up Little Susie” b/w

1964 – The Beatles appear at the Convention Hall in Philadelphia in front
of an all white audience. Clarence “Frogman” Henry replaces The Righteous
Brothers for the remainder of the tour after the duo complains that all the
screaming for The Beatles was drowning out their music.
1965 – Mick Jagger and Rolling Stones manager Andrew Loog Oldham appear on
ITV's Ready Steady Go! to perform a mock-duet of Sonny and Cher's hit "I

Melody Maker magazine looking for a drummer.
1971 – The former manager of The Grateful Dead, Lenny Hart (father of
drummer Mickey Hart), is arrested for embezzling $70,000 from the group.
1972 – The three-day Erie Canal Soda Pop Festival begins on Bull Island in
Illinois. 50,000 people are expected, but more than 200,000 show up,
spelling trouble for the promoters right off the bat. Many acts cancel
because of the poor planning, but those who do play include Black Oak
Arkansas, Albert King, Foghat, Canned Heat, Rory Gallagher, The Eagles,
Gentle Giant, Lee Michaels, The Amboy Dukes, Brownsville Station, Ravi
Shankar, Cheech and Chong, and Flash Cadillac and The Continental Kids.
1974 – David Bowie plays the first of seven nights at the Universal
Amphitheatre in Los Angeles on his Diamond Dogs Tour.
1975 – 60 people are arrested when more than 500 crash the gates at the
Great American Music Fair in Syracuse, New York, to see Jefferson Starship
and The Doobie Brothers.
1978 – Teddy Pendergrass promotes his latest album, Life Is A Song Worth
Singing, by staging a "Ladies Only" concert at Avery Fisher Hall in New
York. All female attendees are given white chocolate lollipops shaped like
teddy bears. The gimmick is so successful that Pendergrass will repeat it
several times during his career.
1978 – George Harrison marries his second wife, Olivia Arias, at the
Henley-on-Thames Register Office in London. They stay married until his
death in 2001.
1978 – Miami Sound Machine singer Gloria Fajardo marries the band’s leader,
Emilio Estefan. They are still married.
1981 – Prince releases his single, “Controversy” b/w “When You Were Mine.”
1982 – Queen performs at the Portland Memorial Coliseum in Oregon on their
Hot Space Tour.
1984 – U2 plays the second of two nights at the Logan Campbell Centre in
Auckland, New Zealand, on their Unforgettable Fire Tour.
1988 – The 20-date worldwide benefit concert tour Human Rights Now! begins
at Wembley Stadium, featuring Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band,

1989 – Ozzy Osbourne is charged with trying to kill his wife, Sharon, and

2005 – During the televised benefit concert telethon for Hurricane Katrina
relief, rapper Kanye West goes on an anti- President Bush tirade, claiming
that “Bush doesn’t care about Black people.”
2010 – Brooks & Dunn play their final concert together at the Bridgestone
Arena in Nashville as a benefit for the Country Music Hall of Fame.
2012 – The band Boston appears at the Divots Event Center in Norfolk,
Nebraska, with opening acts Survivor and Starship. Following Starship’s
set, guitarist Mark Abrahamian collapses backstage and is taken to a local
hospital where he is pronounced dead.
