1929 – Andy Kirk and His Twelve Clouds Of Joy record “Froggy Bottom” and 
“Mess-A-Stomp” for the Brunswick label.

1944 – The nation’s largest recording companies, RCA Victor and Columbia 
Records, end their two-year stand-off against the musician’s union strike - 
which began August 1, 1942, over royalties payments for studio recorded 
musicians - as other newer and smaller record companies that have conformed 
have their new music on the radio. The strike did not affect the musicians 
performing live.

1954 – Bill Haley’s “Shake, Rattle And Roll” hits #7 on the U.S. singles 
chart.

1956 – Jimmy Dorsey and His Orchestra record “So Rare” at Capitol Studios 
in New York City. The song will become his final hit before his death seven 
months later.

1957 – June Carter, of The Carter Sisters, marries her second husband, 
Edwin Nix, and stays married for nine years.

1957 – Jerry Lee Lewis releases his single, “Great Balls Of Fire” b/w “You 
Win Again” on Sun Records.

1957 – Elvis Presley makes his final concert appearance of the 1950’s at

wrapper with two oval cut outs to show only their faces.

1969 – Jim Morrison and flight companion, actor Tom Baker, are arrested by 
the FBI upon landing at the Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport in Arizona, for 
drunk and disorderly behavior and interfering with the flight of an 
aircraft, after a flight attendant accuses them of attacking and sexually 
harassing her. Morrison and Baker spend the night in jail.

1969 – Elvis Presley releases his single, “Don’t Cry Daddy” b/w 
“Rubberneckin’.”

1970 – Ringo Starr and wife Maureen welcome the birth of their third child 
and first daughter, Lee.

1970 – Bob Dylan’s first book, Tarantula, is published.
