I own a circa 1830's musket, with the hammer broken off. Even if it was 
repaired, any commercially available gunpowder would make the barrel into 
shrapnel, due to its crude design (steel bands were wrapped spirally around 
a mold, and then fired until solid). So it is both obsolete and broken.
