I've got a refurbished 700 iMac with cdrw that I bought from Small
Dog in January for a little less than $900. I had a 350. I really
like the new one, but I liked the old one, too.
Some of the reasons I got the new iMac are: external monitor
capability, firewire, imovie, itunes, ieverything. I have a 19" NEC
monitor that plugs right in, no adapter needed. I put the iMac on
the floor like a tower and covered the screen so I don't see things
moving around by my foot.
You should look into buying refurbished. Will save you hundreds,
which could go for a larger monitor or other eToys. Apple puts all
new plastics on the outside and claims to test the innards and adds
new keyboard and mouse. Mine looked absolutely new and I've had no
problems. You get the regular one year warranty.
Sounds like an advertisement for iMac, doesn't it. Yeah, I own the
Apple store in Lansing (Yeah, right!)
