To answer my own question about my UM surplus 8100:
Found a resistor inside 8100's power supply that had heat-cycled loose. It was so bad that the solder pads had lifted up off the board. One was hanging by a thread. It will be an ugly/tricky patch job. I will probably increase the power rating of that resistor. Can you say bad design? ;-P The other 8100's I tested probably had the same failure, as they seemed similarly flaky or dead. UM surplus definitely has an attitude problem - one guy hassled me about how little money I was spending. Should I send him the repair bill? ;-) Larry ( Outdoor lights need lamp shades too! * http://www.darksky.org/ ) -- MichiMac is sponsored by Dan Knight of <http://lowendmac.com/>. / Buy books, CDs, videos, and more from Amazon.com \ / <http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/redirect-home/lowendmac> \ Support Low End Mac <http://lowendmac.com/lists/support.html> MichiMac list info: <http://lowendmac.com/lists/michimac.html> Send list messages to: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To unsubscribe, email: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> For digest mode, email: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subscription questions: <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Archive: <http://www.mail-archive.com/michimac%40mail.maclaunch.com/> Using a Macintosh?
