I have a use case[1] for embedding ticker symbol metadata into blog posts -- with fields like company name, symbol, exchange, country, etc.  There's an existing if proprietary XML format for this data which lends itself to a very simple structured-blogging-style embedding via script tags or (ugh) HTML comments.  We're likely to use that for a short term solution.  I'd like to propose an alternative or at least accompanying microformat as well -- has anyone done any work on this?  I'll throw something up on the wiki when I have some time, but I'm lazy and would love to adopt or adapt someone else's work.

Sorry to reply to my own post, but: Kevin Lawver has suggested that perhaps an extension of hCard could be used for this purpose -- the idea here being that this is like identifying a specific entity.  It seems plausible, but then what if someone recommends a mutual fund like VTSMX that doesn't correspond to an actual organization?

The minimal required fields for our use case (indexing mentioned ticker symbols) are the ticker symbol string, the country, and possibly the trading exchange.  Of these, I think country of origin is the only one that hCard provides out of the box -- the others would need to be extensions.  Any thoughts?
