I tend to agree - as I blogged, I suspect they may be starting the war of Collaborative v Company Driven Protocols (not just syndication formats).
I noticed Google even have their own authentication scheme - not that there's another bunch of efforts in that direction too. This is a huge opportunity for Microsoft if you think about it.
