I don't see anything wrong with the above, nor anything that refutes it in the below.  I think what is trying to be stated here is, that there is no specific HTML tags that are required within most microformats.  For example, in hCard it would not matter if I used a div, span, or li (as we've been seeing recently) etc.

Perhaps I'm way off on what is trying to be said, in this particular instance, but it would appear that what Benjamin said is indeed correct, that the actual HTML used to markup a hCard (or other microformat) isn't necessarily set in stone.

Though Mark definitely has a point that "a validator" is probably not the correct term to be used.  The simple fact that there are specific requirements for each microformat (such as fn in hCard), and that those requirements should be marked up validly (a class href etc), gives us a starting point.
