Phone numbers have a URI identifier of "tel" [1], useful for protocol handlers 
that understand 
VOIP or faxes.  

eg:

<span class="vcard"><span class="fn">Bob Jonkman</span>, <a class="tel" 
href="tel:+1-416-555-
1212">+1-416-555-1212</a></span>

This ought to be recognized as a phone number by speech readers both by the 
hCard class="tel" 
as well as the "tel" URI, and provides a link for your favorite VOIP software 
to act on.

Of course, widespread adoption is not yet widespread...
