I think you have pointed out one of the great things about
Microformats. Each can be used independently of each other.
Absolutely! This is one of the things I'm finding out, and one of the
things that make Microformats so useful.
If you want rel="nofollow" you are more than welcome to use that on
ANY microformat, it doesn't need to be baked into the citation.
You could so something like:
<a href="http://en.wikipedia.com/wiki/microformats" rel="vote-for
tag directory nofollow muse">Microformats</a>
I guess the only issue would be if the work being cited did not have
a hyperlink, since the "rel" attribute is only applicable to <a> and
<link> tags. With OpenURL, this may not be a problem, but the
examples of OpenURL aren't being used to generate links.[1] I believe
OpenURL can be used to create links to sources that redirect users to
their local libraries/institutions...is this correct?
And, for citations that do not have a link, is it OK to use <span
class="vote-for"> instead of <a rel="vote-for">, or some equivalent?
Thanks,
Jeremy
