We would be glad to sponsor such an event... I don't want to speculate too much in detail on the list just yet, but this sounds like something we'd very much like to see happen. It may well dovetail with discussions for a successor to the Foo/Bar/Tag camp series that would be focused mainly on REST programming style. Call it "REST Area" :) :)

After the thanksgiving break,I'd like to chat about this further with anyone who's interested...

Interesting. Have you done a Rails-a-Thon before, or contemplated such a thing? If I'm going to fly out for this, it'd nice to at least make it two days -- do you think you could get a critical mass to show up for all or part of that? When? Where?

I could potentially get us a room at the Chicago Apple Store in downtown, if the timing works out just right...

We should obviously have a way for people to participate remotely, as well, as I've already heard interest.

Hey David, any chance you'll be in the Bay Area any time soon? I think we're at the point where a day or two working on all this together could make a huge difference, like the old Hack-a-thons.

I won't be down in that area before ETech in San Diego in March, unfortunately.

Conversely, if there's a critical mass in and around Chicago, I'd be willing to fly out to you for something like this...

Chicago is indeed a hotspot for Rails developers. We have a good handful of the core guys here. Including Sam Stephenson, the creator of Prototype.
