The definition of "kW/h" is rate of change of power (because of "/" punctuation). Suppose a sudden gust strikes a large wind turbine. The rotor accelerates but is limited by its momentum to some rpm speed increase per second. The output electrical power is increasing too. Increased kW/second would be easier to comprehend. After a few seconds, the gust dissipates, and the speed decreases. A small wind turbine will track the gust better than a 100 meter rotor. That's why faster power measurements (say, 1/sec instead of 1/10 minutes) are important for small turbines.
For hydro, the speed is more determined by load changes on the alternator. The head changes slowly. In our local newspaper, there are usually a dozen misspelled words each day. Journalists aren't likely to care about kW/h vs. kW-h at two in the morning. They may have avoided science in high school as well.
