Hi Murray,

Are you any good playing around with computer models?  If so then go to
www.nrel.gov/homer and download the computer programme called HOMER.  It is
a renewable energy system design and optimisation package whereby you can
model such things to check 'sensibility'.  You may have to play around a bit
and get imaginative in the settings to model your particular situation but
at this stage given your description, cannot see much difficulty.

Where abouts in New Zealand are you?
