Very belatedly have seen last year's postings (Sept 2004) regarding
the use of direct mechanical energy for heating purposes.
I looked into this some years ago and found somebody at ITDG in the UK
who had been to Nepal where Metzler's unit(s) were. He confirmed that
the locals found them impractical but NOT from the construction nor
the usefulness - they were deemed to be too costly to build and
impractical unless there was considerable surplus energy from an
existing turbine.
I believe that there is a company in the US that manufactures ovens
using this principle but can't recall anymore than that the name
included the word "blue" and possibly "air".....
