Hello!
This is my first e-mail to the group. I'm dealing with hydropower
since six months and i need to improve my knowledge on this topic.
After a theoretical rewiew i still have some questions regarding the
criteria for choosing the turbines for a given site.
I know that in addition to the water flow and the head, we have to
consider parameters like the water flow variability (we have to
consider whether the turbine is expected to work under part-flow
conditions) and the desired running speed of the generator.
Which is the criteria that make me choose beetwen two turbines
working in the same area (same range of flow and head)? Can you make
some examples?
Moreover, i would like to know if in modern applications we still
have to keep constant the runner speed (like for the traditional
applications) or we can manage, in every case, the variation of the
speed using inverters to bring back the frequency and the tension of
the produced current to the regular levels!
I look forward to receiveing your answer.
Sincerely
Giorgio
