>hello there, >Does anyone know the formula to caclulate the power in Kw for a >horizontal kaplan turbine: >head of 10M, pipe diam. 0.6M, length 33 M, waterflow 1.2 M3/sec. >propeller diam 0.35 M, 3 adjustable blades, alternator 1000 rev/min. >And how can we calculate the waterspeed just before the turbine?
Since this is a reaction turbine, the speed is not related to kinetic energy at atmospheric pressure. It is related to area of the tube. Diameter is 0.35m so area is 0.1 metres, so the speed through the turbine is 12 m/s (=flow1.2/area0.1) I hope this helps. -- Hugh Scoraig Wind Electric http://www.scoraigwind.co.uk/ ------------------------ Yahoo!
