Hello,
This sounds like a pretty interesting concept. It would be very nice to
keep it as simple as possible. What about a control system? How would that
work? Could you use an electric clutch for that also, and allow the turbine to
freewheel when the compressor was not working? Or perhaps just use a manual
control and turn off the water flow in the penstock when it wasn't needed?
Could it be practical to run the compressor constantly?
A friend runs his walk-in refrigerator for nine hours a day with a 1.5 h.p.
electric motor. It doesn't actually freeze the food, but keeps it fresh in a
tropical location. By the way, would it help much to use a water jacket around
the heat exchanger to increase efficiency?

Dear Ron,
The concept for using micro hydro tubine to run directly refrigerator
compressor is very interesting. we have two micro hydro system installed in
the remote villages in Borneo both with 5 kw capacity and we are looking at
improving the socio economic income of the communities.
these communities are still active hunter gatherers, however thier main cash
income is from selling fish and bush meat. currenly they are selling the
fish and bush meat to middleman which offers very low price. the community
have no choice but to sell this meat or fish because they have no place to
keep it. so in order to get enough cash to send thier children to school,
they have to fish and hunt more and this gives great presure to thier
limited resources.
we are thinking if someone can help us to design the freezer, we can build
in the community so that they have more bargaining power or even marketing
their fish and bush meat directly in the towns. would appriciate if you can
help us to link with publications or interested party to help us with this
Cheers
