Well, induction motors are easily and widely available off-the-shelf
here in Chile, for 50Hz and 220V single phase or 380V three phase, in
many power ratings. You can buy them easily at least in the 10 bigger
cities in Chile.

50Hz synchronous generators are also available, not as widely as motors,
but easy enough. There is a big company in Santiago
(http://www.maqchin.com/) selling very inexpensive Chinese machinery,
including a line of generators. More expensive (and higher quality)
machines are available too. So, my hukble opinion is that instead of
bringing 60Hz machines and derating them, it's better to buy 50Hz
machines here.

You can contact list member Carlos Bonifetti, who builds microhydro
plants and installs them all over Chile. He surely knows where to buy
generators at the best prices! His company's website is

Where in Chile will you be settling?

Manfred.
