Hello Hans, I live in France too (Ardeche)
The main problem for hydro instalation is the law ! If you want to "make something" on a river you must respect the law, and it's very complicate to do that (in France) If the river is "classed" (with fish, and fisher man's) do try anything on it, instead you will see the "water police" very quikly and you will have to detroy all you made (+money eventually) or you must see with the "prefecture" to have autorisations, but it's always complicate. It may be interristing if you have a lot of power. If you have a little river with no fish and you are the owner of the both side of it, you can do something. But remenber it's only a tolerance, you don't have to cut all the flow in your pipeline! even on you land ! Or be discret. (easy on your land with no fisher man) I have friends who do that, 500 to 2000 Watts of peak power. 30 to 100 meter of head. The best thing is to have an old mill with right law "fondee en titre" (it's mean exist before 1789, French revolution) My case ! If you tell me the exact name of the river, y will tell you the fish law on it Regards Eric ----Message d'origine---- >A: [email protected] >De: [EMAIL PROTECTED] >Date: Mon, 24 Oct 2005 19:05:20 EDT >Sujet: [microhydro] introduction > >hello all, > >thank you very much for accepting me in this group. > >my wife and myself are dutch but we live in southwestern france for quite >some years now. >when settling here we already had a keen interest in a heating system >somewhat more sophisticated and symphatetic than the customary oilburner, but >nothing came of it. > >now, the house and lands mostly restored, a new and sensible and interesting >project would be welcome, and some old ideals keep coming to the surface. >about a hundred meters away a small river runs past our house, at about >forty meters away is a small lake, at the other side of the river we have a >small >valley that probably can have a small dam somewhere. > >over the next six months i will try and analyze waterflows, amounts, speeds, >etcetera, and collect meterological data for our area. >also in this period i intend to read all available information and >experience that you have put so willingly at our disposal in order to be able >to >better assess our situation and to build up enough capacity to ask sensible >questions. > >with regards, >hans den boer > > > >[Non-text portions of this message have been removed] > > > > > > >Does your company feature in the microhydro business directory at >http://microhydropower.net/directory ?
