Dear Liz, I operate http://www.WildWaterPower.com<http://www.wildwaterpower.com/> listed below. The technology on that page is not yet ready for production. I have yet to build a full sized model and make sure all of the issues are worked out. I had a company that was going to invest, but they were a startup and felt that they were spread to thin. However I can recommend this site: http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/throptonenergy/homepage.htm<http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/throptonenergy/homepage.htm> I am not sure how much they cost, but they do have operable systems that does not look that complicated. Best wishes, -Dennis ----- Original Message ----- From: Ross Henderson<mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> Sent: Monday, December 12, 2005 7:40 PM Subject: Re: [microhydro] Tiny system for newbie
Liz, Congratulations on your land purchase. We live in Hickory and know that area to be beautiful. I too am no wizard engineer but I have been reading for a couple for months and have a few web sites for you: www.althydrosolutions.com<http://www.althydrosolutions.com/> (Darrieus turbines) www.oasismontana.com/aquair<http://www.oasismontana.com/aquair> (Hydroelectric Aquair UW submersible Generator) microhydo energy system businesses in North Carolina (lists 3 businesses near you) and http://www.WildWaterPower.com<http://www.wildwaterpower.com/> (very interesting for low head pressure). The French Broad is a great river - good flow but low head pressure. A submersible propeller or under slung wheel might be be worth looking at. I don't know any of the professionals over there but you could give them a try. There is a guy in Wilksboro named Tom Morris ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) who has a project underway and probably knows much more than I. I'm in the looking for realestate stage and would enjoy hearing about your progress. Best of luck, Ross [EMAIL PROTECTED] Elizabeth Talmadge <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: Hello Group Members, I am a non-technical newbie to your group. Please be patient with my ignorance. I have tried to read past posts to deduce my answer, but think it best to just ask my question. I am purchasing a property on the French Broad River in North Carolina, US. The only data I could fnd on the River talks about kayaking, etc and suggests something about of 24-41 fpm. The only other data I found talks about flow at 2500 cfs. I don't even really comprehend these numbers. Anyway, we will own a small island and there is a run of river between the island and our home on the mainland. The island has a small fishing hut on it. Historically, grid power was run from the mainland to the hut. We'd first like to consider a microhydro system to supply the island with just a tiny bit of power (for a light or two and an incinerating toilet). We wanted to find a VERY simple system to try. We found the Jack Rabbit on the web... considered that. But I don't even know how to convert our cfs and fpm to miles per hour to know if that will work. But, if I'm guessing correctly, our river won't flow that fast. Along the lines of REALLY simple, idiot friendly, easy to set up and maintain... what do you suggest for us?
