Hi Folks, On Monday October 20th 2014 we experienced a network in the Sutardja Dai network zone. Also impacted were the majority of off-campus locations, because their connectivity terminates in this zone. The attached is the results of a review of this outage.
For those who don't want to read the whole document, the summary is: "Spurious network traffic generated by a set of network switches being configured in a lab environment resulted in the CPU capacity of INR-304, one of the campus zone routers, being exceeded. This lead to the router dropping its routing processes and ceasing to forward packets. Once the source of the traffic was identified and removed from the network, service was restored to the sites that were impacted by the outage." iso -- Isaac Simon Orr Manager, Network Operations and Services IST Telecommunications, UC Berkeley P: +1 510 643 9837 C: +1 510 517 9408 E: [email protected]
