I tend to stay away from .rar, .zips and .jars (just a zip as well). Most AV software (including some of the best stuff out there) only goes 10 (ten) levels deep in the directory tree. Meaning it takes little or no effort to nest something deep into a download for it to execute an exploit. (Double-check your AV settings...)
