It all depends. How do you have your tables defined? With a good key... Are indexes set up on the tables to best match queries that hit the table?  Are you doing anything else against the tables like updating.  What's the frequency that each occurs.  Indexes hurt tables tables that get items inserted to them more than selected from, yadda, yadda..  There's nothing magical about the size of the database and how you would optimize that.
