Oracle To Slash 1,000 Jobs
Business software maker Oracle Corporation has announced more than 1,000 job cuts as it is outlining a course for harvesting higher profits from its recent USD 5.85 bn takeover of rival Siebel Systems Inc. The deal had added about 4,700 Siebel workers to Oracle's payroll. The retrenchment could include Oracle employees as well as Siebel workers based on the way the company has planned to reduce its work force.

Genpact To Recruit 6,000 More
Genpact, one of the largest business processes outsourcing (BPO) company, with about 15,000 employees in India plans to recruit about 5,000 to 6,000 more in the country by the end of this year across its 7 delivery centers. The company expects to increase the number of undergraduate recruits from 5-7 pct to 10 pct within the next two years. The company has also tied-up with Osmania University for providing graduate course training. The Indian centers of Genpact, particularly Gurgaon, Hyderabad and Bangalore has grown rapidly and the recent additions of Kolkata and Jaipur are witnessing swift ramp-ups.

Symphony To Ramp Up Headcount
Symphony Services, provider of outsourced product development services and analytic processes, is looking at acquisitions in China to expand and grow its operations. The company plans to add about 2,000 people in 2006 to take its headcount to over 5,000 by year-end. About 5-8 pct of the new hiring will be from amongst fresher’s while the rest will be lateral hiring. It is also in the process of setting up a 3,500-seat campus in Bangalore and expanding its existing facilities in Pune and Mumbai.

Shell To Scale Up Headcount, Establish Technology Centre
Shell has announced that it will open Shell Technology India (STI), its latest technology centre in Bangalore in the second half of 2006. At present, Shell has major research and development facilities in Houston (USA) and at Rijswijk and Amsterdam in the Netherlands. Bangalore will be the third key location for Royal Dutch Shell technology. The company aims to grow to over 1,000 people as quickly as the business allows, making it one of the largest establishments in the city. Recruitment has already started on the initial phase.
