Currently Midgard's support for multi-lingual sites (or real
internationalization, for that matter) is quite lacking.
This is mostly because we don't have anyone in the team with
real experience in that field, but also because there hasn't
yet been need for that feature.
We had some early plans for supporting localization and
multi-lingual sites in Midgard, based on a demo of the
Multilizer (a proprietary localization system) being used
with Microsoft's ASP I saw back in 1998. However, those
plans (just like our early plans for ACL at the time)
never became reality as we didn't have time to work on
them.
Now, it would be a very good to have native support in
Midgard for those areas, but we would need someone to
work on it, and the people currently working on the
Midgard code simply don't have time. Any volunteers?
I'm sure Jukka can give the needed help for getting
started there.
In the meanwhile, I guess the article reply mechanism
could be used for storing copies of a same content
in different languages. It would probably mean
constructing custom interfaces for that, though. But
after that work it should be quite usable as long as
all the languages use the same character encoding.
This is something I would like to see more discussion
on...
