None at all -- other than ROOT, title and content the style element
names have no magical meaning whatsoever (and ROOT only because
midgard-root.php3 uses it).
The code-global is a place where 'library-type' code can be defined or
imported for the rest of the pages and style elements to use, and
code-compat can be used to define functions you deem obsolete but
are still in use by parts of your site. It's just a convention.
