I have had tremendous success with thunderstone's search engine, it does up
to 10,000 pages for free and it is wicked fast. I saw them at Seybold last
year talking about database optimization for web servers...looking at some
of the auction sites (they did E-bay at the time)..the dem was impressive
so I tried the free version and really like it.......

Atomz offers an indexing service, not the indexing engine. I
specifically want
to interface directly with the search engine so we can index the
database
directly -- not the resulting pages. This will allow searching
specifically
for content records, searching password-protected content, and the
search
system will be using the new Midgard ACL system so a search will only
return
hits that the current user has access too. Atomz can only index publicly
available pages.
