Midgard does not set affect the cache control (it doesn't send
expires or cache headers). How the various browsers would
interpret that I don't know.
What you can do: insert this in the top of your ROOT element
(no spaces or anything before it:

header("Expires: " . gmdate("D, d M Y H:i:s", time() + 300) . " GMT");
?>
