Hi there,
after testing Midgard for a while I now have a bunch of
question regarding some "how-to-use" issues and some more
"architecural" or "general" ones...
First the general ones:
For now we are is using the Content-Management-System
"Imperia" (www.imperia.de), which is written in Perl...
One advantage of Imperia is, that the it uses it's own
server for development/creating and a live-server, where the files get
published.
Every single page is edited/created on the 'development server' and
when the page is ready and approved it's uploaded to the 'live server'
which is just a standard webserver and all pages are simple html-files,
(the development server is standard apache, too but the directory structure
is managed in some database)
You could say, the directory/database structure of the 'development server' is
mirrored on the 'live server'.
Now, after many preliminary words, here the questions:
Is it possible to have the division between 'development server' and 'live server'
with midgard too? Perhaps two midgard-servers which sync their databases?
Or even better, is it possible to tell midgard to generate "real html" on the
'live-server'
from pages/articles marked as "static" and only feed "dynamic" or "active" content
from the ('live-servers') database?
Is it possible to create articles which aren't public visible until some given
date/time is reached and/or the were checked and approved by some, let's say
"administrator"?
Is it possible (boring, eh?) to build a custom Admin-Site for contenters, where they
only
see topics they are allowed to modify, perhaps based on their login?
Same for designer, concering the "layout/style-management"-section?
Is there a schedule, when Midgard 2.0 will be released? Will there be support for
the "Adabas D"-RDBMS??
Now, for the "how-to-use" issues... some question from above may double here...
Is there a way of logging out from the admin site and re-login under an other account??
'til now I have to completely close my browser (every window) an restart it to
relogin...
which is quite a pain with WinNT/Netscape 'cause if you restart (reclick) netscape to
fast,
the task simple hangs and I have to kill it first before restarting Netscape again...
f***ing NT ;-)
What does the "score" field for topics/articles do?? Some sort criteria?
Which consequences does the "approved" button have? Same for the "lock" button?
Are their values automatically checked by midgard or do I have to implement this logic
by myself?
What is the "URL-Field" (article) for?
What does "online" / "offline" radioboxes in the host properties do?
If offline means "not shown to the public" how can such a server be accessed be me?
What do the "active" / "static" boxes mean??
Could you try to explain the concept of the root page an its subpages to me?
I understand, that the directory structure of the site is defined here, but how can I
bind
all articles of one topic tree to a directory / subpage?
Do I have to write code like in the "news"-subpage for that or is there a
faster/easier way?
For now I've only got a basic understanding of the connection between layout <-->
content <--> subpages...
perhaps someone could do some thorough explaination?
Ok, so much for now... I know this is pretty much, so I can wait...
If this is too much for the list, just mail me directly to "[EMAIL PROTECTED]".
Perhaps there are even some german-speaking midgard-users??
TIA
Karsten Kraus
