OK, Disclaimer, I'm not an expert rather just another user like
you. :) Without knowing what you've created so far, my suggestion is to go
category by category and methodically copy and paste every page, topic and
article that make up VMUC into a new host. This aproach will begin to
familiarize you with the Midgard interfaces; Content Administration, Host
Administration, Layout Administration and it'll expose you to Henri's
scripts. Additionaly, you'll have created a new host which you can without
fear of making a mess of modify to your heart's content and you'll have
the original VMUC to refer back to.

Midgard does simplify certain aspects of Host development and
management; however, it's a powerful environment which requires a
concerted effort to take full advantage of. Without being an adept php
programmer, I've gotten a hell of a lot of mileage from studying what
exists.
THE SCRIPTS:
>From the Administration site navigate to Host Administration. You'll see
the port 8099 host pages. These pages contain content management scripts.
You can circumvent extensive use of content scripts by designing your
pages to be static:
Host Adiminstration, Page Administration, these pages are served as is. In
other words any content you place on these pages will be served. So, if
you put text content on them that text becomes that pages
content. Of course you'll want to mark the text up with HTML. However, if
you examine the scripts that exist in VMUC you find examples like:
<? { $article = mgd_get_article(15); ?>
<h1>&(article.title);</h1>
The first line is a little php script which uses a Midgard defined
function to call article 15. The second line reads the articles title
field and prints it back within the html head 1 tag.
Anyway, it'll require some study. If I've completely botched my
explanation someone more adept will step in and clarify. :) As time
permits, I'll keep offering suggestions. If you want to
see a revamp of VMUC done by someone that isn't a strong programmer check
out www.mi-recordz.com. It's a result of persisting and asking pointed
questions.
Seriously; if I can use Midgard, anyone can.
