No, I've used mixed installations before. If you want to load midgard as
DSO
you'll need mod_so statically built-in of course.

Perl doesn't need to be, and you must not install vanilla PHP:
Midgard-PHP
is a replacement (superset) of PHP. Vanilla PHP and Midgard-PHP will
conflict.

Midgard adds to several components of PHP, notably the language parser,
so just
dropping in midgard.c will not work.

The current release version (1.2.5) is at 3.0.12 (I believe), the CVS
version
at 3.0.15.
