recordext.tar.gz is for extendable records.
sitegroup.tar.gz is deprecated (and now removed) since it has been
incorporated in CVS.

The domain you refer to is something I copied from Jukkas' user preferences.
Parameters can be attached to any midgard object. Parameters are defined
by a domain, a scope if you will, and a name. The two levels are somewhat
arbitrary but effective I think. You can use the domain (an arbitrary
string BTW) to segment related parameters into groups.
