I used the precompiled one that I assumed came with the apache-midgard binary.
 It may well be that it was actually left over from a previous install.

I don't think I've tried shutting down both together.  I'll give this a try.

Thanks for the suggestions.  I'll give both of these a try tomorrow (when I'm
back at work).  I was able to convince myself that each Apache process serves
exactly one Postgres page and then segfaults serving the next page whether it
uses Postgres or not.  It's perfectly reproducable so I should be able to get
to the bottom of it eventually.
