That depends on how you have configured apache. In the default install, it
is sent in clear text. You can use SSL (or even SSH tunneling) to avoid
sending cleartext passwords. This is outside Midgards' domain BTW, unless
we're talking MD5 authentication.

The Monster Package comes with SSL enabled, you may want to look at the
specfile how to do it..
