Honestly, I'm not entirely sure. The acl proposal can be ported back to
the 1.4 series. When the repligard guids are in effect it'd be a 2-3 week
effort. I'm just not sure that we should.
ACLs, like sitegroups and attachments, are odd beings in the Midgard
universe since they exist alongside the data framework, not inside.
The guid and new table core as proposed in the 2.0 prerelease makes tree
traversal and global matching on ID easier and cleaner. It is definately
the better approach. OTOH, it may be a while before the 2.0 core gets real
use, and in the meantime the innovations continue. Adding kludges to the
core left & right IMO.
I'd rather not see ACLs being another kludge against the 1.X series, but I
also do not want to hold off innovations too long. It's one of the topics
I was going to bring up in Paris.
