Definitely. Midgard should work with all Linux
flavors, as well as with most of the UNIX
systems.
We have people using it actively with Debian,
Red Hat, Mandrake and SuSE Linuxes, as well as
with Solaris, Mac OS X Server and FreeBSD.

I'd guess this depends on your contract with
the hosting provider. If you have a UNIX
account there, and can install your own software,
it should be doable. Having root permissions
on the server also help.
If your ISP doesn't support this, there are now
some hosting providers that provide Midgard serving
out there.
