How about this:

http://&;(midgard.uri);?lang=&(lang);

        $image_new[0] = "new-finnish.jpg";
        $image_new[1] = "new-english.jpg";

<img src="images/<? echo $image_new[$lang]; ?>

and articles:

add "lang" value to ex. icon field and show only articles which has
right "lang".

this way no arbitary linking of articles is not needed
