libmidgard.so is used by the midgard module and by the midgradized php
module. You need to install it properly before you are going to compile
the rest.

You don't need to search the entire filesystem. Your linker will only
find libs in standard locations or specified by the -L switch. Dynamic
linking at runtime is another business. For this, you have to make sure
that the lib cache is set up properly.

Again: man ldconfig
