Sorry Frank, but the current version of Midgard requires that a
specially-modified version of PHP3 be installed, along with MySQL and related
libraries.  You can (if you're careful) also install PHP4, and run them in
parallel, but at present PHP3 must be installed first.

This is likely to change with a future revision of Midgard (perhaps version
2.0), however that's unlikely to be released for production this year, as the
developers are about to release the latest Beta of 1.4, and 2.0 hasn't
finished the design phase yet.

Anyway, I hope you decide to give it a try, as Midgard is a great solution to
a whole range of problems, as mentioned on the home page
http://www.midgard-project.org.
