Maybe your filing system is full and it can't write out the 
temporary files at various stages of compiling (c->asm, asm->obj) 
etc?

Dodgy RAm sounds like it could be a cause to, ut I don't think 
random compiler failures could be a known issue of anything being 
compiled unless it was the compiler system that was at fault.
