The Oxford English Dictionary is a remarkable achievement and a decidedly serious and scholarly effort. For sundry reasons, I lament the editorial and business decision to publish it continually online, in lieu of a printed edition, but this does not deter me from quoting it. The OED serious editors have over the years, however, introduced some clever and innovative definitions and historical quotes which sustain these definitions. The humor is not at the same level as Chambers, but it is there.
