My only recollection of service between the U.S. and Greenland was the SAS 
service LAX-CPH with an intermediate stop at SFJ (Sondrestromfjord, a military 
airbase), in the piston and early DC8 days.  Once Denmark gained route access 
to Seattle, the flights were routed LAX-SEA-CPH.

 

SFJ is still capable of handling large airplanes, along with Nuuk and 
Narsarsuaq, according to Wikipedia.
